Dog Friendly Holiday Cottages for Bonfire Night

Remember Remember the 5th of November

Dog Friendly Holiday Cottages for Bonfire Night

As much fun as Bonfire Night can be, many pet owners dread its arrival each year. Loud, sudden bangs and flashes from fireworks can terrify our furry friends, sending them into a quivering frenzy.

There’s lots of advice out there to help soothe petrified dogs, from playing calming music to closing all windows and creating a safe space for them to hide. If you’d rather get away from it all completely, we’ve put together a list of retreats that prioritise peace and tranquillity.

We’ve picked a selection of our favourite dog friendly properties that are completely secluded, perfect for bonfire night to keep the pooch at ease. These properties are all blissfully remote, giving you and your pet some much-needed relaxation time, even on bonfire night!

While we can’t guarantee that you will be in complete silence during your stay, we’ve combed our listings in search of the quietest retreats that are far away from any bonfire night events. We cannot guarantee there will be no private fireworks taking place nearby.

Long House in Ceibwr Bay

In the secluded valley of Ceibwr Bay, close to Cardigan, you will find Long House. This quaint stone cottage will serve you well as a cosy base during your November travels with an interior full of character. Picture exposed stone walls, an A-frame vaulted ceiling and a crackling wood burner.

Long House in Ceibwr Bay

Being so secluded, at Long House you can enjoy the best of both worlds; the sea is just 300 yards away down a track and there are beautiful country walks along the valley. The only disturbance you’ll hear on Bonfire Night will be the sounds of the ocean and the bubbling stream that passes alongside the cottage. It may be worth checking if Ceibwr Bay Beach is open for dogs during your holidays as it sometimes closes for seal pups.

You’re only a short drive from the historic town of Newport with all its facilities set on the estuary of the River Nevern and the large golden beach at Newport Sands.

Cnwc y Wylan in Ceibwr Bay

Also located in Ceibwr Bay is the gorgeous Cnwc y Wylan. This peaceful and relaxing cottage boasts spectacular sea and cliff views that can be enjoyed from nearly every room.

Cnwc y Wylan in Ceibwr Bay

Being so remote, you’re surrounded by nothing but rolling Welsh countryside and magnificent views with the only sounds being of the surrounding wildlife and distant crashes of waves against the cliffs. It’s the perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet on your holidays.

It’s a wonderful place for an activity break too, with plenty of bird watching and walking opportunities as well as swimming, painting and of course relaxing.

Penrhyn in Strumble Head

If you’re looking for a truly off-the-grid escape this bonfire night then Penrhyn is an ideal choice. Located on the remote, rugged Strumble Head peninsula, this property has no mains electricity meaning it’s warmed by a combination of an open fire, AGA and woodburning stove. It’s the ideal choice to curl up with a good book and let the worries of the world evaporate.

Penrhyn in Strumble Head

Your closest neighbours are the cows in the fields nearby so it’s unlikely you’ll be disturbed especially by fireworks going off to celebrate the 5th of November. You’re perfectly placed for a welcome dose of digital detox and to explore some of the beautiful coastlines with the Coast Path right on your doorstep. Your dog will love the surrounding walks, trails and open space to roam and explore.

At Penrhyn it’s time to rewind back to simpler times, get cosy and forget about the rest of the world and its worries - they can’t find you here.

Rhosson Farmhouse in St Justinians near St Davids

Wishing for an idyllic country getaway? Rhosson Farmhouse in St Justinians ticks all the boxes. This Grade II listed building is a home-from-home that promises a traditional countryside setting.

Rhosson Farmhouse in St Justinians near St Davids

Once a working farm with livestock, Rhosson Farmhouse dates as far back as the 15th Century and now mixes olde-worlde features with modern details creating a truly charming base for your Pembrokeshire Bonfire Night break. This fantastic thatched roof property is perfect for exploring the wonderful coastline with it only being just yards from the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and a few minutes’ walk from St Justinians.

Felin Fach in Llandeloy

Secluded within Welsh farmland in the rural community of Llandeloy lies Felin Fach, a charming stone cottage which once operated as a working watermill. Beautifully converted, this homely hideaway is set down an unmade lane within an acre of grounds. Encircled by rolling countryside and emerald fields, it is a superb choice for those looking for green space and some privacy this Bonfire Night.

Felin Fach in Llandeloy

With the exception of an occasional tractor engine rumbling or the sounds of livestock nearby, you’ll find Felin Fach to be tranquil and serene. The two-mile stretch of soft sands at Newgale is just four miles away meaning you can be in the sea within minutes of leaving the cottage. What’s best is that Newgale Beach is dog friendly so the dog can enjoy the sands as well.

Honey Hook Cottage in Nolton

Situated at the end of a long track in a peaceful location with acres of farmland to wander is Honey Hook Cottage. This charming cottage is a stunning barn conversion that adjoins the farmhouse on this stock farm.

Honey Hook Cottage in Nolton

The beaches of Nolton, Newgale and Broad Haven are all within a short drive, all great for long dog walks to tire the pooch out. After you’ve had your fill of coastal walks, you can head back to Honey Hook Cottage to cosy up together in front of the wood-burning stove knowing no loud bangs and fireworks will startle the dog.

Lark View in Bosherston

In the rural community of Bosherston lies Lark View, a pretty stone barn conversion with characterful retained features. The outside spaces here are truly lovely with a sheltered enclosed rear garden complete with barbecue. A further farm-fenced lawn is accessible beyond, providing even more space for the family and dogs to play.

Lark View in Bosherston

Lark View is only a mile and a half from the idyllic lakes at Bosherston Lily Ponds, where the accessible circular walk takes in a visit to Broadhaven South Beach. From here, join the footpath into the headlands to the left and continue east to reach the gorgeous Barafundle Beach.

The Rocket Carthouse in Angle

The Rocket Carthouse stands largely isolated on the country road towards Angle. It is most recognisable for its conspicuous tall tower which immediately has you wondering what its backstory is.

The Rocket Carthouse in Angle

Curl up on the sofa for Bonfire Night underneath the wooden beam ceiling and you’ll be sitting in the very spot where rockets were once stored. As the name suggests, this fabulous holiday property was once a storehouse for rockets. You may even be able to spot the fireworks display in the distance over the water at Milford Haven Waterfront. You should be far enough away to comfortably view from a distance without the loud bangs disturbing the dog.

Being set on the Coastal Path, the walking opportunities are in abundance with a number of stunning beaches nearby including West Angle Bay.
