Tresaith Beach

Facing northwest is the beautiful and relatively small bay of Tresaith Beach.

Facing northwest is the beautiful and relatively small bay of Tresaith Beach. Being just 250 metres wide it’s a sheltered beach ideal for sea swimming and safe bathing on the golden sands.

The picturesque village behind the beach has a shop, cafe and pub. Named after the River Saith, Tresaith is the perfect spot for spending beach days in the sun with the family.

This Blue Flag and Seaside Award beach has a slipway and is a popular destination for sailing enthusiasts. The walks around the bay boast fantastic views across Cardigan Bay and the opportunity to spot dolphins and seals in the bay.

Activities

Tresaith is a favourite with locals as well as holidaymakers visiting the area. The beautiful golden beach makes a perfect location for families with lifeguards on the beach during the summer holidays. Popular for swimming, surfing, sailing and windsurfing as well as beach games and sandcastle building. Being home to the Tresaith Mariners Sailing Club, races can often be seen taking place on Sundays during the sailing season. There are also plenty of rock pools for the children to explore at low tide.

The Saith River tumbles over the cliff to the beach below. Here you’ll spot the stunning Tresaith Waterfall that cascades down the rocks separating the beach into two. It’s the perfect spot to shower after being in the sea!

Tresaith Beach waterfall

To escape the crowds, head to the second, smaller beach at the northern end of Tresaith past the waterfall. Watch out for the tides though, as this beach is only accessible along the sand which disappears at high tide.

Tresaith offers an ideal base for walkers wishing to explore the Ceredigion section of the Wales Coast Path which links Tresaith to its neighbouring village of Aberporth. From here you can head to St Dogmaels to start the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail. This spectacular trail covers some of the most varied coastal scenery in Britain, stretching from St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the South. Or at low tide, it is possible to walk along the foreshore from Aberporth through Tresaith and all the way to the golden sands of Penbryn, to the north.

For wildlife lovers, Tresaith is an ideal place to spot a variety of seabirds as well as bottle-nosed dolphins and grey seals which are popular visitors during the summer months. Spot the dolphins on a guided boat trip around the stunning Tresaith Beach with views of the stunningly beautiful coastline and spectacular sea caves that make Cardigan Bay A Bay to Remember.

For a fun-filled family day out that will keep the kids happy, head to Adventure Beyond, a family-run outdoor activity centre based in the beautiful Cardigan Bay. Try coasteering for the first time or a beautiful canoe trip on the River Teifi. Perfect for if you fancy an adrenaline fix, a relaxed family day out or time spent getting back to nature.

Whether you’re peering into rock pools, heading out for a sail or tucking into a spot of lunch overlooking the beach, there is something for all generations to look forward to in Tresaith.

Facilities

Tresaith is situated 8 miles from Cardigan along the Ceredigion coastline in West Wales. Facilities include free public toilets with disabled access, seasonal lifeguards, a shop and cafe serving refreshments and ice creams, a pub overlooking the beach and a slipway. The toilets have wheelchair access and baby-changing facilities.

Parking along the seafront itself is limited, but there is a pay-and-display car park at the top of the hill, a short walk from the beach. Steps leading down to the beach can be found by the bus stop further down the road.

For diners wishing to take in the sea view, a visit to the excellent Ship Inn serves excellent food and drink with plenty of tables outside on the heated terrace overlooking the beach.

A visit to Mwnt, famous for its dolphins should not be missed, while there is a further choice of seaside towns and beaches to visit including, Newquay and Llangrannog to the north and Poppit Sands and Gwbert to the south, all within a short drive. For a real treat visit The Cliff Hotel and its popular spa.

Cardigan Castle

Just over 15 minutes away by car from Tresaith is the town of Cardigan. Here you’ll find supermarkets, retail shops, as well as more restaurants and cafes. Whilst visiting it’s worth paying a visit to the impressive Cardigan Castle to learn all about its tumultuous history. Or take in the riverside, Pizzatipi, for a pint and a meal or the Theatre Mwldan, for a touch of culture.

Access

Limited free parking is available on the beachfront, including a few spaces for disabled drivers. However, parking is hard to find here in the high season so it may be worth heading to the car park found on the right of Ffordd Tresaith as you come into the town from Aberporth. Steps leading down to the beach can be found by the bus stop further down the road. Ideal if you’re travelling via public transport.

Beachgoers have wheelchair access and can easily reach toilets, eateries, shops, a first aid post and the sailing club. The public toilets have wheelchair access and baby-changing facilities.
