Pembrokeshire October Half Term

Things to do Over the Half Term

Pembrokeshire October Half Term

With the October half-term soon approaching, we’ve outlined some of our favourite things to do with the family. While Pembrokeshire’s natural playground of beaches, coast paths and wide-open spaces are all still on the table, here are some fantastic things to do this year.

Pumpkin Patches

Does anything say Autumn more than a day spent at a pumpkin patch with the fam? Half term falls just before Halloween this year, making it a great time to pick out the best pumpkin. We are spoiled for choice here in Pembrokeshire with a number of pumpkin patches to choose from including Heatherton in St FlorenceWindsor Farm in Lamphey, Good Hook Pumpkins in Haverfordwest, Greenacre Pumpkin Patch in NarberthSteynton Farm in Milford Haven and Tenby’s Pumpkin Patch. Whether it’s the biggest, most orange pumpkin you’re after or the tiniest wartiest pumpkin, you’re sure to find the perfect one.

Castell Henllys

Halloween events at Castell Henllys Iron Age Village will begin in the half term, giving visitors the chance to enjoy an autumnal walk and ghostly tour through the enchanting woodland before arriving in the village itself. Here you will be greeted with spine-chilling stories of the creatures and characters of Welsh folklore.

Oakwood Theme Park

Face your fears with a visit to Oakwood Theme Park for their Spooktacular is a must-do for the family this October half term. Prepare to be terrified as the whole theme park transforms into a spine-chilling world of fright and spooktacular fun. There’s a costume competition where the scariest costume wins a prize and even an outdoor maze with horrifying creatures at every turn. Ideal for a family day out.

Picton Castle

The glorious Picton Castle Gardens are the perfect location to enjoy a family-friendly day out to celebrate Halloween. There are 60 acres of woodland gardens to explore as well as The Welsh Owl Garden & Zoo. Normal admissions apply for the event where you can follow the spooky door trail, check out the creepy crawlies, get lost in the spider maze, and get crafty in the haunted house.

Llys Y Fran

Once you’re all Halloween-ed out, a visit to the beautiful and peaceful Llys Y Fran Lake is a must. Take a walk or cycle around the lake, or take part in the many water activities they have there, as well as land-based fun like archery. It’s free to enter and is dog-friendly so your pooch won’t miss out on all the fun.

Ramsey Island

October half term is the perfect time to enjoy holidays in Pembrokeshire. It’s not as crowded as the summer months. This time of year sees the end of seal season, where you’ll find young pups bobbing around their beaches, getting used to their human neighbours.

Book a landing on Ramsey Island with our Concierge Team and discover this incredible RSPB Nature Reserve. With its red deer, many bird species and of course the seals and their pups, it's the perfect place to go exploring. There’s a 3.5-mile walk around the island where you can better spot the amazing birdlife, including guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, fulmars, peregrine falcons, choughs and ravens.

Saundersfoot Big Bang Weekend

Finish your half term with a bang at the Saundersfoot Big Bang Weekend. This family-friendly Pembrokeshire event combines both Halloween and Bonfire Night. Held over two days, you can expect spooktacular delights and bonfire magic!

Jam-packed with activities, including trick or treat trail, a disco and a fancy dress competition for the little ones as well as pumpkin carving with plenty of prizes up for grabs. That’s not forgetting the fantastic bonfire activities, a funfair and two firework displays over the water. It’s a truly magical event.

Visit Dobby’s Grave

Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire

October marks that time of year when days are cooler so you start to rummage your shelves for a good book to sit in and cosy up with. Calling all Potter fans, Freshwater West is actually the filming location of a few scenes in Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. The quirky beachside home was built here for filming but was taken down shortly after. This is also the place where Dobby’s death scene was filmed. So rather than sitting inside reading, head to this gorgeous beach where you’ll find Dobby’s grave tucked away in the sand dunes. The spot is now covered with decorated pebbles to commemorate his death.

As well as brilliant visitor attractions, there are plenty of quiet and beautiful beaches to explore, scenic walks to enjoy and fascinating wildlife to discover. Head to Pembrokeshire for this October half-term to find out more.
